Hugh Robertson visits Russia to sign International Memorandum of Understanding

From 28 – 30 May, Hugh Robertson visited St Petersburg for the SportAccord International Sports Conference. Whilst there, he signed the first ever Memorandum of Understanding between the UK and Russia around cooperation in sport. He spoke from the platform at the Conference with Carlos Nuzman, the Chairman of Rio 2016, about staging an Olympics and had meeting with a number of International Sports Federations and bodies, accompanied by Lord Coe. Away from the Conference, he took part in a tourism event and a reception at the British Consulate for British companies who have won contracts in Russia.

Hugh Robertson addresses the UN

Hugh Robertson was one of the keynote speakers at the joint UN/ IOC Sport for Peace and Development summit in New York from 4 – 5 June 2013. He spoke about the role that sport can play in international development and its role in building better societies and, particularly, about the work of the UK’s own scheme, International Inspiration. He also hosted two tourism events, with Visit Britain and Visit England, one to promote the UK more broadly and one connected to the Rugby World Cup in 2015.
